Your salary is late. What does Qatari law say?

Date Published

Qatar enforces strict regulations on salary payments, ensuring protection for workers against late wages.

In Qatar, the Labour Law mandates that employers must pay salaries within a defined timeframe to avoid penalties. As per the updated regulations, salaries must be transferred to workers' bank accounts within seven days of the month, marking a new strict compliance measure intended to safeguard workers’ rights.

If salary payments are delayed beyond this period, the employer faces significant penalties, including fines and possible imprisonment. Workers can also apply to change employers or terminate their contracts if their pay is not resolved promptly.

Workers should maintain careful records of their salaries and any correspondences related to their wages to facilitate potential claims against employers who breach these regulations, ensuring their rights are protected under Qatari law.
