US revokes 300,000 visas under Trump: What Indian students and workers need to know

Date Published

The US State Department has revoked over 300,000 visas, marking a historic high. This move is part of a broader immigration crackdown by the Trump administration against foreign nationals holding US visas, affecting many Indian workers. The Labour Ministry in India established boards to monitor welfare for unorganised workers and gig workers.

The US State Department, under Secretary of State Marco Rubio, announced on October 30 that it has revoked more than 300,000 visas, which is marked as the highest in history. This action aligns with the Trump administration's pursuit of stricter immigration policies, particularly impacting foreign nationals with visas, including many Indian workers. Alongside the visa revocation news, India's Labour Ministry has also established two boards to oversee and recommend welfare schemes for unorganised and gig workers, aiming to strengthen social security protections, including health and maternity benefits.
