Qatar amends wage protection system requirements - DLA Piper GENIE

Qatar has updated its Wage Protection System (WPS), mandating employers to transfer wages within seven days of the due date. This move aims to enhance transparency and ensure timely payments to workers.

Qatar's Ministry of Labour has recently amended its Wage Protection System (WPS) under Ministerial Decision No. 50 of 2026, significantly changing how wages are paid and reported. Employers are now required to transfer salaries for workers paid on a monthly or annual basis within seven days of the salary's due date.

This decision clarifies that for monthly-paid workers, wages are due on the first day of each month, while for other categories, they will fall due every two weeks. This tightening of rules aims to improve compliance among employers and ensure that workers receive their wages in a timely manner, thereby enhancing overall worker protection and welfare in the region.
