Immigration for the purpose of training – what does the route into German vocational education and training from third countries look like? | BWP

Date Published

Germany has simplified regulations for vocational education immigration, enabling smoother entry paths for skilled workers from third countries, provided they meet specific language and qualification requirements.

Germany's Skilled Immigration Act outlines a streamlined approach for third-country nationals looking to enter its labor market for vocational training. This legislation consolidates numerous existing regulations and is designed to facilitate smoother immigration for skilled workers, who must secure a contract and demonstrate adequate language skills, typically at a B1 level.

The act allows trainees to engage in paid employment, enhancing their financial security during training periods, and emphasizes the importance of prior verification and recognition of qualifications to ensure that candidates are well-equipped for employment in Germany.

In addition, the government has put mechanisms in place to ensure that foreign apprentices are not only recognized academically but also provided with the necessary support to thrive in the training environment in Germany, helping to meet labor market demands effectively.
