Government Makes the Four Labour Codes effective to Simplify and Streamline Labour Laws

India's Labour Codes are now in effect, designed to improve worker rights and protections.
The Indian government has made the four new Labour Codes effective, aiming to transform the employment landscape by simplifying existing laws and enhancing worker protections.
These codes, which replace outdated regulations from 29 separate laws, introduce provisions for equal pay, improved social security, and protections for gig and platform workers. They require employers to provide health benefits and establish a National Floor Wage, which guarantees that all workers receive at least a living wage.
In addition, the new laws explicitly prohibit gender discrimination and ensure that women can work in all sectors, including night shifts. This comprehensive overhaul is expected to significantly impact millions of workers across India by bringing clarity to labor rights and enhancing overall working conditions.
