EU package to strengthen labour mobility

Date Published

The European Commission has introduced a Fair Labour Mobility package aimed at simplifying the recognition of foreign professional qualifications across all EU countries. This package is expected to provide significant benefits by 2040, including faster recognition and real-time verification of qualifications.

The European Commission has adopted the Fair Labour Mobility package, intending to ease the recognition of qualifications for foreign professionals. This package includes five legislative proposals, focusing on creating a digital means for handling applications and ensuring faster decision times. Central to the legislation is the introduction of a general recognition system for professional qualifications held by third-country nationals. Furthermore, this initiative aims for smooth integration of workforce mobility within the EU, projecting substantial cost savings and a more transparent process in recognizing qualifications, projected to yield approximately 6 billion euros by 2040. For skilled workers wanting to work in Germany, the commission has also provided multilingual resources to assist with the recognition process.
