CITB Consults on Functional Competence Recognition | Construction Skills Today
Date Published
CITB starts consultation on a new approach to recognize construction workers' skills without formal qualifications, aiming for more flexibility in skills recognition.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in Great Britain is inviting feedback on a proposed functional competence recognition system that allows construction workers to validate their on-the-job skills without completing full formal qualifications. The consultation is open until January 15, 2027, and seeks insights on the benefits and challenges of implementing this method.
This new approach hopes to adapt to the evolving skill requirements of the construction sector while complementing existing pathways like NVQs and apprenticeships. By simplifying the competency assessment and reducing redundancies in training, CITB aims to enhance workforce participation and address industry skills shortages efficiently.
